  1. The starving dogs were a difficult match for the sled dogs because of the hunger and pain the dogs were enduring. They felt they were fighting to survive and if they didn't give it their all, they were done for. This gave the ravenous dogs the ability to fight until death, un-afraid of whatever may occur. Of course the starving dogs were aware of what would happen if they lost the fight so they knew losing wasn't an option.

  2. Joanna : i think that the chapter 3 title means that how the first dogs had began and all the ways the dogs would treat each other. as in how they survived with the small amount of food Francois and Perrault would give them. yeah OK !! :)

  3. Laura- i think the title of chapter 3 means that after all the fighting between Buck and Spitz there's finally a winner who can be named the leader of the pack because Buck and Spitz fought to the death and Buck won leaving Spitz for the other dogs to finish after falling.
